About this edition

Emma in Three Volumes is edited and designed by Aaron D. Stott and published by Alfie Charlie Press, a small independent imprint in Melbourne, Australia.

It began for a fairly simple reason: I wanted an edition of Emma that I couldn’t find.

I wanted the original three-volume structure. I wanted chuse and shew. And, after comparing editions, I wanted to know why punctuation that had survived in Austen’s first edition had quietly changed over the following two centuries.

This edition is the result: newly typeset, intended for ordinary reading, and based as closely as practicable on the text, spelling and punctuation of the 1816 first edition.
